Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

KL is a place where you can find the confluence of many races and religions. The prominent races are Indian, Chinese and ethnic Malay. Though the stamp of modernity is too prominent to ignore, traditions still go strong in the lanes and alleys of KL. KL is well connected to all parts of the world. KL airport is way outside the city but it is conveniently connected to KL city centre by high speed train. KL airport itself is an eye candy. If you are landing during daytime, you can see the rolling palm plantations stretching to the horizon. As it?s a tropical place, more often than not, you will encounter intermittent rain. Temperature remains in the range of 22 to 32. Malaysians are connoisseurs of food, thus the whole place is full of eateries.

There are many places in KL to stop by. The best would be KL City Centre (KLCC). This is the so called central business district. It is well connected to other parts of KL by trains. In KLCC, the signature building happens to be the twin tower. This huge sky high tower portrays the aspiration of Malaysia, which aims to be a developed country by 2020. KLCC is a posh place with all the modern amenities you can think of. While travelling in KL, you can always find a TV tower hovering in the horizon and that should be your next destination. It is known as KL tower. It the second tallest TV tower in the world. Be aware of monkeys at KL tower, as sometime they can be bit of a pain. This tower sits on top of a small hill and the biodiversity is well preserved in that area. You should not miss a visit to Chinatown. It is situated at the heart of the city. If you are bargain hunter, then head to Chinatown. Little India in KL is famous for Indian food. It is located quite close to KLCC and connected by trains. It?s not a bad idea to bargain for spices, perfumes, incenses in Little India. If you are a night owl, then Bukit Bintang and Bangsar are the places for you. KL is a shopping paradise. Though the most expensive and exclusive shopping places are located at KLCC, you can find many other shopping junctions such as StarHill Gallery, SOGO, Mid valley and Times square to name a few.

Genting Highland is a hill resort located quite close to KL. Hop on a bus at KL Central if you want a cheap ride to Genting. Genting is a relief from the hot and humid KL. Genting is famous for its casinos, theme park and cable car.

Batu caves are located just outside KL city. Batu caves can be reached from KL by bus or taxi. These caves are sacred place for Hindus in Malaysia. You would be greeted by a gang of monkeys on your arrival at Batu caves. The best time to visit Batu caves is during Thaipusam.

Melaka should be your next destination. It is almost 200 KM away from KL. Regular bus services are available from KL main bus station. Melaka is situated in the middle of Melaka straits. Melaka is a place where you can find the European influence on Asia. Melaka?s history has been shaped by English, Dutch, Portuguese, Chinese and Malay. This romantic city should be a ?must-visit? on your stay at KL.

Well, if you still have time, then you should not miss Putrajaya. It is situated quite close to city and can be accesses by train or taxi. Most of the Federal offices are located at Putrajaya. If you have interest in Islam architecture, then Putrajaya is the best place. The whole place is full of modern Arabic style buildings, artificial lakes and beautiful bridges.
